Large numerals cancels of December 1862.

Following a test that occurred in Lyon between February 20th and 25th 1862 a new type of cancel stamp appeared in France, the large numerals cancel (Gros Chiffres). Parrallaly a new alphabetic list of the french post offices was made in July 1862.
First, the algerian post offices recieved this new type of cancel stamp. The metropolitan post offices recieved it in the second half of December 1862.
We suppose that the date of use had to be January 1, 1863. But some post offices used it before, in December 1862.
The Administration also asked to exchange their small figures following the new 1862 list, but this order was respected by only a few post offices. These numeral cancels could be used in reinforcement or if the large numerals would be damaged or lost. These cancellations are called small numerals of the large numerals (in French "Petits Chiffres des Gros Chiffres").

Some post offices used their large numerals cancel as soon as they recieved ist. The earlier date of use ist December 19th, 1862.
In the Departement Nord, 24 post offices used their "Gros Chiffres" since December 19th.
These post offices are: ANZIN, ARMENTIERES, BERGUES, BOUCHAIN, CAMBRAI, LE CATEAU, COMINES, CRESPIN, DOUAI, DUNKERQUE, FOURMIES, HAUBOURDIN, HAUMONT,  LILLE, LILLE-WAZEMMES, MARCQ-EN-BAROEUL, MAUBEUGE, MERVILLE, ORCHIES, RAISMES, ROUBAIX, SOLRE-LE-CHATEAU, TOURCOING and VALENCIENNES.
